Project Overview
This residential extension and refurbishment at Victoria Road involved carefully reworking an existing dwelling with two apartments to create one family home, to accommodate 2 reception rooms, a kitchen, dining space and 4 bedrooms. The aim was to enhance internal space, daylight, and overall functionality.
KS Architecture were appointed to develop a robust architectural and planning-led solution that balanced policy compliance, residential amenity, and long-term viability.
A Conversion of a guest house to a family home and rentals.
Client Brief & Constraints
The clients required additional living accommodation to support modern family life, with a strong emphasis on natural light and a better connection to the garden. Planning considerations and neighbouring properties required a controlled approach to scale and massing.
Design Response
The design introduces a modest extension that integrates seamlessly with the existing building. Internal layouts were rationalised to improve circulation and usability, with window openings carefully positioned to maximise daylight while avoiding overheating.
Planning & Technical Strategy
The scheme was developed in line with local planning policy and supported by a clear design rationale. Technical design focused on improving thermal performance and long-term comfort through upgraded insulation and glazing.
Outcome
The completed project delivers a brighter, more flexible home that meets the clients’ needs while enhancing the value and longevity of the property.
